Robert Browning, Sr., clerk in the Bank of England, father of the poet and playwright Robert Browning. Album of sketches : (MISC 1937) : 62 leaves, loose in binding, containing unsigned caricatures and drawings in pencil and in ink and watercolor, text in pencil and in ink beneath. The caricature sketches and text form short narratives, somewhat like comic strips. Three drawings appear to be in a different hand. Provenance note : "Mary Elizabeth Hunter -- These sketches, by Mr. Robert Browning Senr were given to me by him, set by set as they were finished. Paris. 1859-60" -- in ink on inside front cover. Shelved under "Browning" with bound manuscript material.
